Getting around Vietnam: compare the whole journey
Flights, trains, and road transfers solve different problems. Compare door-to-door time and arrival locations before booking.

Compare the complete journey from your accommodation to the next one. A short flight still includes airport transfers and check-in; a train or road transfer may finish far from the neighbourhood where you want to stay. This guide provides a decision framework; check live timetables directly with the operator.
Flying between regions
For each option, include both airport transfers, check-in, baggage collection, and the onward journey. Read the operating airline’s fare conditions, including checked luggage and changes. Avoid a tight self-transfer to an international departure without understanding the consequences of a delay.
Taking the train
Check the exact service and date through Vietnam Railways. Compare the seat or berth type and the actual stations. An overnight journey can be a useful part of a route, but think about how you sleep and when you can check in at the next property.
Using a road transfer
Confirm the operator, pickup point, drop-off point, and vehicle type. Ask whether a listed arrival time is an estimate and how luggage is handled. A hotel name in a destination field does not always mean door-to-door service.
Keep a transport note for every leg
- The exact service, date, and booking reference.
- Addresses for departure and arrival, saved offline.
- Included luggage and any additional charge.
- Cancellation or change terms.
- An alternative if the service is disrupted.
Keep current fares and schedules with your booking notes rather than treating an old article as a live quote. Return to your route options after comparing the transfer days.
