10 days: the north, then a slower central stop

Ten days can work well for a north-and-central route if your flights support the direction. This editorial outline uses Hanoi, Ninh Binh, and Hoi An without trying to add southern Vietnam. Adapt the outline to your confirmed flights and transport.

Days 1–3: Hanoi

Use the first day to arrive and settle in. Give the next two days to city walks and the visits you most want to make. Keep one part of your schedule open in case your flight or energy level changes the plan.

Days 4–5: Ninh Binh

Move to a countryside base, allowing for the final transfer from the transport hub. Organise one main outing each day rather than assuming you can fit every landscape stop into a single afternoon.

Day 6: move to central Vietnam

Compare a return towards Hanoi for a flight with the rail options that actually run on your date. Allow for the journey to your departure point and the onward transfer to Hoi An. This is a travel day; its success should not depend on a timed evening booking.

Days 7–9: Hoi An

Use three days to slow down. Mix time in town with a flexible local outing if conditions suit. Compare accommodation locations against the walking and transport you expect to do.

Day 10: departure

Plan the transfer to your chosen departure point. If your international ticket is from Hanoi, add the return journey explicitly and shorten the route accordingly. See the transport framework before booking.
