21 days: build a journey, not a race

Three weeks gives you room to consider several regions, but does not require you to cover all of them. This suggested framework includes time for transfers and some flexibility at the end. Choose the direction using your flights and the current conditions on your dates.

Days 1–7: a northern beginning

Split the first week between Hanoi and Ninh Binh. Count your arrival day in the schedule, and use the rest for a mix of city and countryside time. Decide which activities matter most before adding another overnight base.

Days 8–14: the central portion

Allow a day for the long-distance move. Consider Hue and Hoi An if the actual connections fit. Keep fewer stops if your preferred transport consumes more of the week than expected. Local weather and official notices should guide outdoor plans.

Days 15–19: a southern finish

Compare the full journey to Ho Chi Minh City, including both transfers and luggage rules. Use the first day to settle in. Keep the remaining time for city interests or a carefully researched local trip; this guide does not endorse operators.

Days 20–21: keep a margin

Retain a spare day near your departure base rather than planning a distant final-night stop. Check airline guidance and the confirmed airport transfer. If you prefer a slower trip, use the southern allocation to extend the north and centre instead.
